| PRESS CONFERENCE ON LAWSUIT FILED BY AN EX-YAKUZA DON & A BEST-SELLING AUTHOR FOR DAMAGES AGAINST POLICE (Ohtsu, Shiga pref.)---The retired charismatic head of the venerable Aizu-Kotetsukai yakuza syndicate, Mr. Tokutaro Takayama, and a best-selling author, Mr. Manabu Miyazaki, are holding a press conference on Dec. 18 (Mon.) to voice their protestation against Shiga Prefectural Police's acts of putting pressures on the Ohtsu Prince Hotel to cancel a charity talk show sponsored by a buddhist monk, Kansho Kayaki, and originally to be held at the hotel on Dec. 18 with Takayama and Miyazaki as guest speakers. Succumbing to the police coercion, the hotel did cancel the show, despite the fact that the initial plan of the show was suggested by the hotel itself. The purpose of the charity show was to raise funds to help Mr. Kayaki who is aiding the war bereaved to gather ashes of the Japanese soldiers who died in the Pacific areas during the last war. It is reported that the police told the hotel, "Miyazaki is a pestering anti-police advocate and Takayama is an ex-yakuza head. We wish you not to provide a space for a gathering with such bastards participating." Messrs. Takayama and Miyazaki are suing the police for the damages caused and to redress their grievances that the police's acts of impeding the holding of the charity show are unconstitutional, claiming that the police is in violation of the Articles 14, 19, and 21 of the Constitution of Japan. Press Conference Place: Room "Katorea", 1F, Ohtsu Royal Oak Hotel, Ohtsu-city, Shiga Pref. Tel. 077-543-0111 Date & Time: December 18, Monday, at PM 1:00 |
