Tanaka, now confined in the jail of Chonbuli, Thailand, is fettered for 24 hours
a day. So far we have found that his life is extremely in danger. That is, he might
be killed by the jail governor at any time. We have tried to save his life, and more
and more people have great concern about the safety of life of Tanaka.
While we were working hard, we were contacted by one person who said, "I was
allowed to directly write a letter to King Bhumibol and inform The King of Tanaka's
problem." The person has associations with the royal family of Thailand though
I cannot reveal the name here.
I have heard that King Bhumibol has tremendous influence over the society of Thailand
and commands genuine respect. So it is a great honor to be allowed to have The King
bother casting His Majesty's eyes or lending His Majesty's ears. I don't know how
to express my sincere gratitude to King Bhumibol. I am also deeply grateful to the
person for taking an urgent action of writing a letter to His Majesty.
The news of the above letter is still unknown to Tanaka. But I can imagine that,
when he knows, he will surely be moved and say, "I've never dreamed of such
a person who did such a thing for me ..."
Tanaka is now rejected for getting an interview with his Thai attorney, which has
never happened here in Thailand though the country is still one of the developing
countries in Asia. It is clearly against Section 8 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Many people in Thailand insist that we file a suit against the jail in no time.
But the Thai attorney in charge refuses to sue the jail governor of Chonbuli with
his name mentioned at the risk of his life.
It is understandable that the attorney is quite reluctant because Chonbuli is a
district where the Maffia are most extending their power. The people of Thailand
well know the fact. So the attorney, living and working in the
Maffia area, becomes nervous of turning against the jail governor. He is saying such
a thing is nonsense and out of the question.
However, as we are approaching the date the decision is read out, we are meeting
with one thing after another, all of which we have not experienced before.
For the present two or three thousand people have access to this zorro-me.com Web
page every day. And at least several people send an e-mail message to me that reads,
"How are you?"
I have also heard that to this Web page the Japanese people working for the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs, the police, and the Japanese Embassy, and among others a lot
of Japanese working for the press have access.
In Thailand, Tanaka's problem that he is fettered and his life is in danger has
now reached Parliament, the Court of Constitution, scientists of law, All-Thailand
Bar Association, judges of the Supreme Court, all the press, and at last the Royal
Family.
I have received information that the answer to the application for a new trial filed
by Mr. Kodama is already specified, and within this week or next week the answer
will be announced.
We are turning the last corner.
