Lawmakers' Morality
It seems that "the citizens" of this nation, loves to question
the morality of lawmakers. However, I am absolutely sick and tired of
those hypocrites, especially those so called commentators, whose primary
job is to show their indignation on matters such as: "I cannot
tolerate a lawmaker who had cheated papers so secretaries could receive
more salaries," or "It is abominable, and utter disgusting
unethical doing that a lawmaker had a former yakuza gangster as a sponsor,
who paid secretary's salaries."
I would like to ask a question to them, who believe that connections
between lawmakers and gangsters is something unforgivable, and that
could shake the fundamentals of democracy. How would you define a connection?
For example, yakuza votes to a candidate in his constituency in a national
election and the candidate gets elected for office. The lawmaker and
the yakuza had made a connection through election and voting, both very
important acts of democracy.
If the commentators wish to deny the legitimacy of connection between
yakuza and lawmakers, those who have won their election with votes from
gangsters, should resign. Such logic could lead to a conclusion that
yakuzas and former yakuzas should be banned from voting.
What I would like to point out is the meaning of questioning morality.
And I would like to add that people should not be questioning morality
easily, especially as an occupation. I believe it is perfectly legitimate
that people hunt down illegal acts committed by lawmakers. It would
also be important if the lawmakers are attempting to conceal the illegal
acts.
However, posing doubts against lawmakers' morality could easily turn
into a logic of private trial without jury. Most of all, it is preposterous
to seek morality within power-hungry lawmakers of this country. I think
it is like forcing Muslims to do "Ohyaku-do," a Buddhist ritual
of running between the main gate of the temple and the main temple building
for 100 times.
